DirecTV’s Media Center Tuner still not on track for this year

From EngadgetHD:

"It was a pretty big disappointment when we learned that the Windows Media Center TV Pack (code named Fiji) didn’t include support for the long awaited DirecTV tuner, and unfortunately this means the smart money is on Windows 7 — which will probably be out in early 2011 — but of course this doesn’t stop a few assumably uninformed DirecTV CSRs from telling customers it’ll be out in November."

I almost don’t care anymore when and if this comes out.

Zune 3.0 update now available

The Zune is Microsoft’s version of the iPod. I bought it when it first hit stores and like it better then my iPod. I love the fact that I can record shows on my media center then transfer them to the Zune. Something the iPod can’t do.

The latest version of the software is now available to Zune owners. You know how we geeks love our software updates!

Engadget has a nice article about some of the new features.

DirecTV and TiVo Agree On New HD Box

Credit: BetaNews.com

DirecTV and TiVo kiss and make up, again, with HD agreement

"In the clearest signal to date that the new management at DirecTV is changing course, the satellite TV provider announced this morning it has renewed — rather than let elapse — its agreement with time-shifting hardware provider TiVo. Although it may still be a little late for some consumers, TiVo is now promising a new HD box for DirecTV subscribers for the second half of 2009."

I am very interested in hearing more about this box, including its features. Microsoft’s handling of its Media Center has been making me question my loyalty to the product. If this new HD box gives me anything close to what my Media Center can do, I might jump ship and be exclusive to Tivo.

How will this affect the Media Center/DirecTv partnership? This would give customers 3 different choices for DVRs, which is great for customers. But I can guarantee most people will go with the Tivo option, leaving Media Center in the dust and an afterthought. You had your chance Microsoft and you blew it!

Hooking up a Sirius FM Direct Adapter and Mount

I am not a car person at all. When guys talk about horse power, turbo injection and so on – I have no idea what they are talking about. So this past weekend I felt my ‘man points’ move up when I told my wife "I’m going outside to work on the car."

What I did was add a Sirius FM Direct Adapter and mount to both of our cars. Between cell phones, GPS, DVD player and Sirius Satellite radio, things we getting a bit out of hand. I must say it was not hard to do. Thanks to www.tss-radio.com. You can go on their site, select your car make and model and it will tell you which mount to buy and what tools you’ll need. Each mount comes with easy to follow instructions.

I took me about an hour and a half per car. Not bad and it looks awesome. Like a pro did it.

Thanks to the internet I can now add DIY car guy to my tool belt.
